What does ‘upload’ and ‘download’ mean?

The person/computer sending the information refers to the transfer as an upload, while the person/computer receiving the information refers to it as a download.  For example; if you send your CV to your account on Leisurecruit.com, this is known as an upload.  If you later retrieve it to make amendments this is referred to as download.
